2024 Capitol Hill Visit Student Application

2024 Student Application - Due by December 17th

Each year the Fraternal Government Relations Coalition (FGRC) provides the opportunity for collegiate fraternity and sorority members to directly engage in the federal legislative process by lobbying on issues of importance to our community.

Interested students can fill out the application below. Successful applicants will be notified by the NIC the week of January 29th, 2024.

FGRC is seeking outstanding campus and chapter leaders to participate in the FGRC Capitol Hill Visits with lawmakers and their staffs in April 2024 to advocate for government relations platforms developed by NPC and NIC. These topics include protecting student freedom of association rights, creating national anti-hazing laws and improving college affordability. You should not apply if you do not feel comfortable advocating for these legislative issues.

The goals of the visits are to both provide a premier student development experience and advance the legislative agendas developed by NPC and NIC.

The characteristics of students the FGRC is looking for include:

  • Geographic Diversity. Typically one male and one female student from each state are selected.  Students from the west, northern plains and New England are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Leadership Experience. The best Hill Visit participants are those who are current leaders on campus, can speak on behalf of other students due to their elected position and are interested in government and/or politics.
  • Year in School. Students who are in their junior or senior year of college are preferred.
  • Expectations of Students. If a student is selected, they will be expected to participate in prep work leading up to the visits, including reading materials about our legislative priorities and training sessions before arrival in Washington, D.C. They will also be expected to be on site in D.C. for in-person training/practice on Tuesday, April 18. It is important that students are aware of, and agree, in advance to meet these expectations, if selected.

The Hill Visits will take place April 9-10, 2024. If selected, you will be expected to participate in mandatory virtual trainings in the spring and then in-person training/practice in Washington, D.C. during the afternoon of Tuesday, April 9th before visiting with elected leaders and their staff on Wednesday, April 10th.  It is important that you know you will need to miss class to participate in the meetings with lawmakers and should be prepared to plan accordingly with professors.

The Fraternity will cover the cost of travel and lodging for selected students.

Send your questions to Davis Millard, Associate Executive Director & COO at dmillard@deltachi.org
