ORDER OF THE WHITE CARNATION

Delta Chi established the Order of the White Carnation in 1975 to honor those men who have displayed meritorious and inconspicuous service. The Order is to be more than a treasured award and has become an honorary degree of the Fraternity, an open and informal degree, not secret, but honored highly.

This honor is awarded only to those men who give consistent and meritorious service to at least one, and preferable, to several chapters; who maintain frequent and consistent attendance at Delta Chi gatherings, at chapters, at regional conferences, at alumni meetings; who are in attendance at most national conventions; who make generous and consistent contributions of time, efforts, and personal funds for the good of the Fraternity, its programs and members; whose service to the Fraternity has been truly unselfish and which, for the most part, has been inconspicuous without seeking or receiving national office or recognition.

The motto of the Order of the White Carnation is the latin word “succurrri” which translated means “I ran to help” and is the appropriate response to the ritualistic cry for help.

Members of the OWC can be recognized at formal functions by the medallion worn on white ribbon around their neck, a custom lapel pin, and/or as designated by a white carnation boutonniere worn on their lapel.
